ProClarity 6.3 behaviour changes with SSAS 2008

Posted by thomasivarssonmalmo on October 13, 2010

A recent upgrade from SSAS 2005 to SSAS 2008(not the R2 version but the 10 version)  revealed some behaviour changes in ProClarity Web Professional 6.3 and ProClarity Profesional 6.3.

If you run and nest dimensions on rows you can allow empty rows or filter them with the Non Empty buttons even on SSAS 2008.  Nested dimensions are when you place a customer and product dimension together on rows or columns.

If you add the 6.3 SP2 version(6.3.2222.144) ProClarity will automatically add the NONEMPTY() function to nested dimensions and you will not be able to see empty rows in the grid.

Some users would actually like to see empty rows primarely because they export these reports to Excel and empty rows have some information value to them. Mainly it is because they need the entire dimension structure from the top to the leaf level.

Update: A second issue is that row and column(grand and sub) totals for ratios or percentages will apply SUM instead of AGGREGATE to these totals in  ProClarity  Web Professional and Professional when cubes are migrated from SSAS 2005 to SSAS 2008 SP1.  After the upgrade of ProClarity to 6.3.2222.144 this issue was gone.
